CBSE Exam Pattern Change 2026: Beginning in 2026, CBSE will change its Class 10 and 12 board exams to competency-based tests, with 50% of the questions testing conceptual knowledge and application. Replace Rote Learning with Competency-Based Evaluation
The question paper format has been updated by CBSE to conform to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. MCQs, case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, data interpretation, and situational problems will make up half of the competency-based questions starting in 2026.
Select-response (MCQ) questions will make up 20% of the paper. Constructed-response questions with both short and extended responses will make up the remaining thirty percent. This implies that conceptual understanding and application of knowledge, as opposed to memorization, will be tested for half of each exam.
Two Board Exams for Class 10
